Sheep foot road roller
A sheep foot roller is a type of road roller characterized by steel wheels with many bumps resembling sheep’s horns. These bumps, available in various shapes like sheep’s foot, cylindrical, or square pillar, exert high pressure per unit area, ensuring uniform compaction and a high degree of compaction. Combing scrapers remove mud blocks stuck between the bumps, enhancing efficiency. Sheep foot rollers are ideal for compacting viscous soil and gravel, especially hard clay, as they stir, knead, and tamp the filler uniformly, preventing delamination. Widely used for compacting subgrades, cushions, and dams, their small bottom area and high unit pressure result in effective compaction, further aided by lateral squeezing effects when the bumps penetrate the soil layer.
